Alan and Winkie Steer

Father and son, Winkie and Alan (pictured) are both born and bred in Beesands and loyal friends of The Cricket.

Winkie, now a semi-retired fisherman, is still drawn to the sea and heads out to the bay in the summer months with his lobster pots. His son Alan  has been fishing since he left school in 1986. He is very passionate about his trade, which his father (Winkie) passed onto him alongside his trawler. Alan never fails to succeed in supplying us with amazing, local seafood which we have become very well known for. He specialises in trawling lobster and crab with his crew on his boat Superbus.  He also brings hand-dived Beesands scallops in our eyes are the best out there.

During the summer months there is an abundance of mackerel and seabass in the Bay which the Steers deliver straight to be pub doors.

S & J Fisheries

S&J Fisheries are based in Plymouth and supply us with our whole fresh fish daily. 

From John Dory and seabream to skate and plaice, these marry perfectly with our Josper grill which gives a unique barbeque flavour to whole fish.

Luscombe Drinks

Situated on a beautiful farm in Buckfastleigh, South Devon, Luscombe Soft Drinks have gone from strength to strength. We’re proud to support this family-run business and we’re particularly fond of the Elderflower Bubbly, one of our most popular soft drinks here at the Cricket Inn.

According to Gabriel David, the head of business, he only sources ingredients direct from growers he trusts. There are no compromises, only the best goes in the bottle.

Otter Brewery

The Cricket Inn has been using Otter’s extremely popular cask ales for a number of years.

Established in 1990 by David and Mary Ann McCaig and located on a sixteenth century farm high up in the Blackdown Hills, Otter is now one of the South West’s leading suppliers of cask conditioned beer and has been named ‘Brewery of the Year’ by the Good Pub Guide.

The site is home to the UK’s first underground eco cellar and the brewery’s aim has always been to produce commercially viable beers that are full of integrity, provenance and real character. Otter Ale, Otter Bitter, Otter Bright, Otter Head and Otter Amber are available all year round as well as several seasonal specials including Otter Claus.
